Use this to convert a video shot with the HDTV 16:9 aspect ratio compromise to the Digital Cinema 1.85:1, i.e., 37:20, ratio. Note how thin these horizontal bars are. That is because the Digital Cinema’s 1.85:1 ratio is only slightly different from the HDTV 1.78:1 ratio. To make this even clearer, the original HDTV was/is 1920x1080, the original DC 1998x1080. And in the 4k era, HDTV is 3840x2160, and DC is 3996*2160. DC is 4.0625% wider than HD… Why did they do it? IMHO, they just didn’t want people with video cameras making movies, or something. They still do, though. And this can help you to be one of them! ? It has a transparent background. This is one of the series of graphics I have created to allow masking of the contents of videos, so they appear to have a different aspect ratio. Some will make it appear more cinematic by adding a horizontal bar on the top and on the bottom of each video frame, creating the illusion of a wide screen image. Others will make it look more old-fashioned by adding a vertical bar at the left and right sides of each video frame, thus producing the illusion of classical cinema, which used the 1.33:1 ratio in the silent era and the academy ratio (1.375:1) once the sound film appeared. Additionally, before the big switch to digital TV, television used the 1.33:1 (4:3) ratio. So, why use SVG vector graphics when similar masks are easy to find on the web in the PNG bitmap format? After all, video uses bitmap frames and most video editors cannot
